John J. Elder was born December 31, 1887 in Brooklyn (I have his baptismal record from Most Holy Trinity R.C.), and the last I find of him is the 1920 census when he is living with his family on St. John's Place in Brooklyn. He is unmarried at that time. Even though you say he married Eleanor about 1925, I find Eleanor Clemente, 40 years old and still 'single' living at 1099 Lincoln Road, Brooklyn, and she is the 'head of the family', consisting of herself and sisters Grace (33), Edith (37),May (35) and brother Emanuel (23). I have not been able to locate him for certain in the 1930 census. They must have married after 1930. I do find an index for a John J. Elder (no age) marrying in NYC on January 21, 1934, but since I haven't sent for the actual certificate yet, I won't know if this is him, or not, until I send for the certificate.

According to the SSDI, John Elder died October, l975, with East Rockaway as his last official residence. Eleanor Elder died October, 1974, same place.

13 * Joseph Manuel's registry of birth in Boston lists his fathers place of birth as: Gibraltar.
* The 1860 US Census in New York lists his birth place as England.
* The 1851 Ship record states his "origin" as SPAIN.

Note: Gibraltar was originally a Spanish holding, and taken by the British after the Great Siege of Gibraltar in 1713. Pure supposition, but interesting.

33 4-16-97 Uncle Lou -

Born in Jaoco or Yauco Puerto Rico 2-12-1874

Met Francisco Pacheco and had 14 children.
1) Some of them born in Puerto Rico
2) Margaret was the oldest

Came to Kaui with Francisco in approx 1906 brought along a sister Maria who was approx 19 years younger than Guillerma.

4-19-97 Dad -

Guillerma's family was captured by the Spanish, not sure when or in what generation. The Spanish took the women and married them w/o permission

Had another sister (not Maria) and brother who came from Puerto Rico. Brother went to Honolulu and died. The sister went to Honolulu to claim the body and get his money, sister never came back.

Caravalho, Guillerma Macio (I238)

34 4-16-97 Uncle Lou -

Francisco was born in either Spain or Portugal in the late 1800's near the Azurs in Europe.

Not sure how or when he came to Puerto Rico.

Met Guillerma Coribiore, had 14 children, came to Hawaii in approx 1906.

Francisco lived with Nana & Papa in Honolulu after Guillerma died.

He died sometime after Pearl Harbor. Dad thinks around 1947 because they moved to Calif in 1950 and he had been dead for a few years. Francisco was killed walking across the street either buying gum or going to visit his brother Mike.

4-19-97 Dad -

Dad remembers him as being a light skinned man, not very tall, possibly Spanish.

Francisco had a brother who stowed away on some ship, was caught and had to work to pay his passage. Not sure where the ship was going. He was approx 13 - 16 years old. The brother either moved to the big Island or Maui, Francisco never heard from him.

**Conflits between Dad and Uncle Lou-
Dad thinks F & G came from Puerto Rico on a ship through the Panama Canal to Hawaii. Uncle Lou thinks they came by ship to either New York or Miami, then train through Luisiana, to either L. A. or San Francisco, then by ship to Hawaii. *** Need to check imigration records.
