Alvin J. Katchmar, 89, of Streator passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015 at the LaSalle Veteranís Home in LaSalle. 

  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 A.M. Saturday at the St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church, Streator.  Msgr. Philip Halfacre will officiate. 
  Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Friday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.  The rosary will be recited at 3:45 P.M. 
  Burial will be in St. Stephenís Cemetery, Streator.  Pallbearers will be a son in law, Scott Jinks; grandson, Adam Bartelt; nephews, Andrew Katchmar, Tom Gualandi and Drew Katchmar; and a friend, John Underwood.  Honorary pallbearers will be 3rd Degree members of the George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council # 790.  Full military rites will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492. 
  Born June 17, 1926 in Streator he was the son of Andrew and Anna (Salata) Katchmar.  He married Loretta H. Brennan on January 14, 1956 at St. Maryís Church, Wenona.  She survives in Streator. 
  He is also survived by a daughter, Patti (Scott) Jinks of Manassas, Virginia; grandchildren, Kristina Katchmar, Mandi Bartelt, Heather (Kevin) Purdue and Adam Bartelt; great grandchildren, Tessa Bartelt, Madison Purdue, Jasmine Pardue and Isabella Bartelt; nieces and nephews also survive. 
  He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Laura Katchmar; a son, John Katchmar; a sister, Lucille Shawback; and brothers, Raymond and Andrew Katchmar. 
  Born and raised in Streator he attended St. Stephenís grade school and graduated from Streator High School. 
  He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.  He worked for Owens Illinois Glass Company as a Mold Maker for 44 years. 
  He volunteered as the caretaker of both the new and old St. Stephenís Cemeteries for 20 years. 
  He was a member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council # 790 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492. 
  Al enjoyed bowling and participated in bowling leagues through the years.  He was also a Chicago White Sox fan. 
  Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donorís choice.
