Hyde, Thomas - Obituary

Obituary for Thomas Hyde from Findagrave.com website.

Thomas Mervin Hyde, born November 4, 1922, was a wonderful, loving, intelligent man. He and his late wife, Betty, were married for 44 years and raised 10 children together.

After her passing, he married Marie Majercin Hyde. She brought 5 children into their extended family. They were happily married for almost 23 years.

Tom had a very strong, abiding, Catholic faith. This faith permeated every aspect of the way he lived his life and he made every effort to pass this faith onto his children. He loved them so much. He loved to have them around to share a drink and to talk religion and politics. He always entertained with amazing stories of his childhood, the depression, and the war. He had a talent for telling a good story.

Tom was a giving man, a man of inner strength and determination. This was reflected in his lifelong generosity to many charities without ever expecting thanks.

It was also reflected in his giving of his time and talent to serve his country in the navy and the coast guard during and after World War II. A navy transfer got him and Betty to San Diego soon after their marriage.

After an honorable discharge from the navy, Tom began working in construction industry that would result in a 60 year career as an architect. He has projects throughout San Diego county among them St. Charles church of which he was most proud.

Tom also had a lifelong love of animals. At a young age he bought a horse which he owned until he joined the navy. He has always owned dogs, always strays. He loved letting them roam on the acreage behind his house every morning as he would say his rosary. His love for animals speaks to his compassion for all living things.
He will be missed so much. The only joy is knowing that this precious man is in heaven forever.
