Sylvester Arasimowicz dies at 73; Was Fishers Island Greens Keeper
(New London, CT) - Sylvester Arasimowicz, 73 of FIshers Island, a retired greens keeper at Fishers Island Country Club and Hay Harbor Golf Club on the island, and a former carpenter, died at 4 a.m. today at Lawrence Memorial Hospital where he was admitted at 5:50 p.m. yesterday.
Mr. Arasimowicz, husband of the former Anna Zionkowska, had been in failing health for a year and had been home for three weeks after a previous hospitalization.
He was born in Wilno, Poland, Feb. 23, 1886, and came to this country in 1903, first settling in New Britian.
Mr. and Mrs. Arasimowicz were married at Sacred Heart Church, New Britian, August 13, 1907, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
They moved to the island in 1919 and he took Civil Service employment at the former Fort Wright.
RETIRED TEN YEARS
Mr. Arasimowicz worked for contractors on the island before becoming a greens keeper and retired ten years ago.
He belonged to Our Lady of Grace parish on the island and its Holy Name Society, and was a life member of Fishers Island Fire Department.
Surviving, besides his widow, are four sons, John and William Arasimowicz of Fishers Island, and Theodore Arasimowicz, Wethersfield, CT, and Edward Arasimoiwcz, Verdunn Canada; three daughters, Mrs. Sophie Paquette, Mrs. Anne Wall and Mrs. Melen Zito, Fishers Island; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 9:15 a.m. Saturday from his home, with a Requiem High Mass at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church and interment in St. John's Cemetary on the island. There will be calling hours from 7 to 8 o'clock tonight at Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home and from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Arasimowicz home.
